Body Love Tips for Pisces Season Wellness
In wellness astrology, aspects of your anatomy and physiology align with the zodiac signs. Pisces associates with the feet, immune and lymphatic systems. This includes the pineal gland that synthesizes melatonin and (in some spiritual traditions) corresponds to psychic ability.
Put Your Best Feet Forward
We may find our heads in the clouds rather than our feet firmly planted on the ground during this dreamy time of the year. With less-than-attentive navigating, we can stub toes if we aren’t careful! Our delicate footpads also need extra TLC. Maybe forego fashion for comfort? Essential oils like peppermint can soothe soles if you go OT in heels. Myrrh is good for cracked heels and tea tree for athlete’s foot.
Inadequate sleep can make us crabby and less productive. It can also lead to development of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Avoid tablets, computers, phones and other blue-light emitting devices right before bedtime. They can mess with the production of melatonin and our sleep cycles.
If going straight from email to bed isn’t working for you anyway, unwind in a bath filled with relaxing essential oils, like lavender and chamomile. If worry has you awake staring at the ceiling, flower essences such as White Chestnut, Mimulus, Vervain may help your slumber.
Eat Consciously and Limit Libations
Practice meal mindfulness. Savor your food: chew well and pay attention to aroma, texture and taste. Conscious eating helps you feel satiated and improves digestion. Consider blessing your food. Meditate or express gratitude for the many people who brought food to your table, from farmer to grocer. This practice helps you feel connected and nourished.
A pitfall of Pisces season wellness is to fall back on bad habits, vices, or to overuse substances. Too many alcoholic drinks can compromise the liver, lead to reduced energy, immunity, or disrupt sleep. Try limiting drinks or replace them with seltzer, teas or plain water.
Foods to Consider: Seafood and Sea Salt
Seafood and shellfish are protein-rich foods to eat now. Many are rich sources of immune-enhancing selenium and zinc. Sardines are good for anti-inflammatory omega-3s and may contain less contaminants than fish like salmon (plus they are less expensive!).
Sea vegetables are equally beneficial and loaded with minerals like iodine. Try nori, dulse and kombu in your soups, salads and of course, sushi!
If you reach for the salt shaker, make sure it’s filled with sea salt. It’s derived from evaporated seawater instead of land-based halite deposits, and therefore more mineral rich. It’s also made without anti-caking or chemical additives like traditional table salt.
Self-Care Tips for Pisces Season Wellness
Flower Essences: Pink Yarrow and Nicotiana
Pink Yarrow is helpful if you absorb the emotions of others, particularly any suffering. It helps to fortify personal boundaries and gain objectivity while remaining empathetic.
Nicotiana is a wonderful elixir for any escapist tendencies we may wish to curb. It fortifies the heart so we can feel connections and emotions without their tide taking us out to sea. It’s also a natural remedy for overcoming addition to tobacco.
Spa Treatments: Reflexology and Hypnotherapy
Reflexology, a form of bodywork that centers on the feet, is good for our tired tootsies. In this practice, parts of our feet are aligned to our body’s organs. Treatment opens energy channels, sparking a greater sense of vitality throughout body. Health stores sell pocket-sized reflexology maps or there are resources online, if you want go DIY.
Hypnotherapy is particularly good if you deal with insomnia, anxiety or chronic pain. It’s also beneficial for alleviating stress-related illness and may enhance treatment if you are working through addiction.
Relaxation Practices: Meditation and Water
Meditation can increase mindfulness and help us gain (clearer) direction. It’s calming, of course! But it also has health benefits, such as the power to reduce stress, curb insomnia, and improve heart health. A barrier to meditation is feeling we don’t have time. But even five minutes of meditation can focus and energize. Try a guided meditation for Pisces season from Terri Cole, Astrostyle’s meditation expert.
Take a dip! Swimming in water is a great form of exercise, a low-impact way to strengthen muscles, tone the heart, and enhance joint mobility. Bonus: water is relaxing! A simple home bath or a trip to a spa for a tub soak is perfect if a beach vacation isn’t on your calendar or there’s no pool in your yard (or warm weather to make that option enticing!)
