Body Love Tips for Capricorn Season Wellness

In wellness astrology, aspects of your anatomy align with the zodiac signs. Those that are associated with Capricorn are the skeletal system, teeth, joints and skin.

Healthy Skin

The skin is associated with this sign in wellness astrology. Given that Capricorn season falls at the peak of extreme weather (either winter or summer, depending upon the hemisphere in which you reside), your skin may need additional support in battling the elements, whether it’s drying heat or blustering cold.

A dietary approach to healthy skin includes plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables, omega-3-rich fish and seeds, and filtered water. Food sensitivities can be a culprit for breakouts, so investigate whether dairy products, wheat, or other foods trigger acne or incite redness. Keeping skin moisturized is important for looking and feeling good, as it enhances the skin’s ability to act as a barrier against bacteria and other infiltrators.

Structural Support

Capricorn is a sign of structure. This sign governs the connective tissue in the body, including bones and cartilage. A joint-protective self-care plan includes a greater emphasis on anti-inflammatory foods: salmon, sardines, walnuts, chia seeds, berries and purslane. Since Capricorn rules the joints, this is a great time to do exercises to strengthen the knees, which can be done using ankle bands or even the wall. And with this sign’s connection to the teeth and gums, it’s a good idea to make better oral health a new year’s resolution—commit to flossing more and regular dental check-ups.

Bone Up Your Health

Diet can play an important role in promoting bone health. Infuse your repertoire with foods rich in calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and copper. At the same time, limit your intake of those things that compromise bone integrity, such as refined sugar and salt. Reduce your caffeine intake by swapping coffee for green tea, which contains a wealth of catechin phytonutrients. Doing so can increase bone density. Searching for alternatives to soda that contain bone-weakening phosphates? Look for natural fruit-flavored options, or mix your own by combining sparkling water and fruit juice.

Foods to Consider: goat’s milk and leafy greens

Turn to the Capricorn totem—the goat—for some nourishment during this time. Goat’s milk is rich in calcium, with just one cup providing more than 30 percent of the Daily Value for this bone-building mineral. And when it comes to minerals such as magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, it also contains higher amounts than cow’s milk. Goat’s milk also contains a different protein structure than cow’s milk, as well as slightly less lactose (some people who are sensitive to the latter can tolerate the former). With increased interest in this dairy product, it’s become easier to find, at farmers’ markets and natural food stores, and supermarkets as well.

They may seem delicate, but leafy greens are a solid contribution to the backbone of a diet during Capricorn season. Not only do greens such as Swiss chard, collards, kale and spinach contain a high amount of calcium, they also provide a wealth of bone-building nutrients in amounts that oftentimes eclipse dairy products. These vitamins include magnesium, vitamin K, copper and manganese. And with their concentration of antioxidants—such as vitamin C and vitamin A precursors—they can help to fight cartilage-damaging free radicals. Steam leafy green quickly (fewer than five minutes), and serve them with nuts or oil, or spritz them with a little lemon to help boost their nutrient benefits.

Self-Care Tips for Capricorn Season Wellness
Flower Essences: Oak and Gentian

Feeling self-reliant or exceptionally ambitious? Pushing yourself to your limits? There’s a drive to achieve when Capricorn is ruling the skies. Yet, that level of ambition can leave you feeling exhausted as you push through your extensive to-do lists. If you need help remembering that Rome wasn’t built in a day—let alone by one person—consider Oak flower essence. It can help you recall that accepting help from others isn’t a weakness of character, but oftentimes can be a strength. You don’t really need to do everything by yourself!

Looking for help to push past a hurdle that’s getting in the way of your ability to climb to the top of your proverbial mountain and accomplish your goals? Gentian is a great flower essence to try. If obstacles knock you off your steady footing and give you pause that fills you with discouragement rather than perspective, Gentian can really help! It can bolster your spirits whenever a setback appears so that you can re-galvanize your faith that you can accomplish what you have intentioned.

Spa Treatments: Swedish Massage and Exfoliation/Moisturizing

The sign of Capricorn is all business: no frills, no fancy, no bells, no whistles—just the tried-and-true basics that can be trusted to deliver value. If you’re treating yourself to a bodywork service, consider Swedish massage. This is the classic type of body work that most people associate with the word “massage”: the practitioner uses long gliding strokes to dissolve tension, enhance range of motion, and get blood flowing to nourish muscles and connective tissue. Don’t have the time or money to book a professional massage? See if your partner or good friend would be interested in learning some techniques and giving you one.

The post-Solstice season is a great time for renewal—and Capricorn has you focused on fortifying our foundations. Commit to nourishing your skin. Get a dry brush or scrub mitt so you can slough away dead skin cells while in the shower or bath. Instead of an off-the-shelf body lotion, pamper your skin with a natural and chemical-free option such as coconut or almond oil. And when it comes to moisturizing your face, treat yourself to a nourishing and hydrating mask. Try natural masks from apothecaries and beauty stores, or you could also make your own mask with ingredients such as avocados, yogurt, honey, or milk.

Relaxation Practices: Have a Play Date and Walk a Labyrinth

Work-life balance isn’t just a pop phrase; it’s a real life goal—most notably during this nose-to-the-grindstone zodiac season. While you’re working hard and filling your calendar with tasks, projects and deadlines, schedule in some fun! Play dates aren’t reserved for kids. Call up a friend and make a plan to do something together. As laughter is often the best medicine, sprinkle your day with doses of humor. Go see a funny movie or a live comedy, or simply release your inner child and let yourselves be as goofy and silly as you like!

Walking a labyrinth is a moving meditation with a destination, a great combination during this time. The outward goal—to weave your way through a maze-like structure—reinforces the internal goal, which is to calm the mind and relax the body. Labyrinths aren’t a newfangled creation, but rather have 4,000-year-old roots in ancient Crete. You may find them to be nurturing. Labyrinths are found in numerous spaces around the world, including cathedrals, healing centers and community centers. Find a labyrinth near you here.
