Buddhism and Stoicism may be ancient philosophies, but many of their timeless teachings can provide us with wisdom today to help us live happier lives. Both philosophies believe the world is what it is and everything that happens is up to our interpretation — we can change our feelings if we so choose. Neither Stoicism or Buddhism are fans of impulsive emotional reactions, instead, they advise not to let events around you dictate your behavior. We feel better when we give up trying to control things out of our power, so Stoicism and Buddhism focus on emotional acceptance instead of controlling difficult life issues.
You and I are not the first people to wonder, “How can I live a happier, more fulfilling life?” Not by a long shot.
Stoicism and Buddhism are both a few thousand years old and I write about them a fair amount because both have core elements that have been validated by modern science.
